GALLAGHER GOAL SECURES CUP VICTORY FOR FENSTANTON


Fenstanton FC won the Hunts Benevolent Cup after a thrilling battle with Catworth based team CSV Utd. Fenstanton were looking for revenge against CSV after they beat them in the semi-final of the Hunts Junior Cup 2 months ago.

Fenny started the game as the more dominant team by going forward, making CSV put their backs against the wall. After 20 minutes, a Salv Merola corner found its way onto the head of midfielder Mark Gallagher to make the score 1-0.

The second half saw CSV put more pressure on Fenstanton but a string of great saves from keeper James Morton kept Fenny in the game. Adam Berrill came close to doubling the score in the last minute but his chip sailed just over the bar.

The game finished 1-0 giving Fenstanton their first trophy since 2006.
