11 June 2021 – Weekly Police Report – Fenstanton District

Good Afternoon, Fenstanton District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 5th to 10th June:

Low Road – Police and an ambulance were called to an incident at a leisure complex on Low Road on Monday evening where a car had collided with a golf buggy. One person was taken to hospital but is not thought to have been seriously hurt in the incident. (Ref CC-07062021-0535)

An Item Of Local News From The Police Web-Site:

A St Ives man was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months in jail at Peterborough Crown Court last Friday, 4th June, after pleading guilty to attempting to incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity at an earlier hearing.

The man had used an on-line messaging app to contact what he thought was a 13-year-old girl, although it was in fact an under-cover police officer.

And Finally … Census Text Scam

A Somersham Ecops subscriber contacted me this week to let me know about a scam text he has received about the recent UK national Census.

The text reads as follows: “CENSUS: There is missing information from your Census application. Update your application – visit …” – followed by a suspicious web-address.

The text may go on to threaten you with a fine if you do not comply.

This kind of text is most definitely a scam, and you should NOT click on the link to the web-address in the text message. The government will not issue a fine so long as you have sent in your Census form.

The Census Office has issued the following information about this kind of scam:

“We will not contact you via a text message, email or phone call asking for your details or regarding a fine …. Please do not engage or respond to these messages and do not click on any links provided … If you wish to report the scam to us, you can send us a message using our web-form, providing as much detail as possible.”

You can also send any suspicious text message that you may receive to the National Cyber Security Centre by simply forwarding it to 7726. This is a free service and enables your Internet Service Provider to investigate.

Weekly Policing Update – Fenstanton District

Good Afternoon, Fenstanton District Members –

I hope you are enjoying the long Bank Holiday weekend! Whether you are wanting sunshine or showers, it looks like there will be something for everyone over these few days!

Meanwhile, here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 25th April to 2nd May:

Low Road – Police and an ambulance were called to a collision between two cars on Low Road on Tuesday evening, 27th April. Fortunately no-one was seriously hurt but both vehicles needed to be towed away by recovery services. (Ref CC-27042021-0446)

And Finally – Changes to Police Contact Service Changes:

Cambridgeshire Constabulary have announced changes to the ways in which the public can make contact, including ending ‘walk-in’ service at some Enquiry Offices and the introduction of appointment-based surgeries.

The changes are part of the streamlining announced last year, which also includes changes to the way in which Neighbourhood Policing is organised.

A14 C2H – Planned closures w/c 19 April 2021

A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire: major improvements

We are currently carrying out finishing works for which we need to close lanes or carriageways on the A1, A14 and some local roads at times, usually overnight between 9pm and 6am, unless otherwise stated. A clearly signed diversion route will always be in place for closures.

For this week, the planned closures are:

Full closures
Saturday 24 8am to 5pm (TBC)
• B1514 Brampton Road between station car park and Edison Bell Way
Vehicles on the Huntingdon town centre side will be diverted onto the ring road, St Peters Road to A141 west to Brampton / Brampton Racecourse junction and into Brampton via B1514. Vehicles on the Brampton side of the closure will follow this diversion in reverse.

Sunday 25 (one night)
• A14 eastbound between Godmanchester junction 23 and Swavesey junction 24
Vehicles will be diverted to exit the A14 at junction 23, travel north on the A1198 and east on the A1307 to re-join the A14 at Swavesey junction 24
• A14 westbound between Swavesey junction 24b and Godmanchester junction 23
Vehicles will be diverted to exit the A14 at junction 24b, west on the A1307 to Godmanchester and south on the A1198 to re-join the A14 westbound at junction 23

Church Leys, Fenstanton – Thieves broke into the garage of a house on Church Leys at some time overnight on Wednesday 7th / Thursday 8th April, and stole a Yamaha motor-cycle from inside. The bike is white with red and black markings. (Ref 35/20508/21)

Lost and Found:
A very honest member of the public came across a sum of money in St Ives this week and handed it in to the police, who would like to reunite it with its rightful owner. If you believe this to be you, or perhaps a relative, please contact the police using the web-chat link below or call using the 101 non-emergency number, quoting Reference 134 of 6th April.

And Finally – Free Covid-19 Rapid Tests Now Available for Everyone in England Who Has No Symptoms:

The Department of Health and Social Care is encouraging everyone in England who has no symptoms to get into the habit of using free ‘rapid lateral flow’ tests twice a week, as part of the next steps towards the cautious easing of restrictions. The tests are available from today, Friday 9th April, and can be obtained from a variety of outlets or delivered by post to your home.

Weekly Policing Update – Fenstanton District

Good Afternoon, Fenstanton District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 28th March to 2nd April. My apologies for the non-appearance of last week’s Policing Update – this was due to a combination of technical and other factors that conspired together.

Fenstanton – Police arrested a suspect at an address in Fenstanton on Thursday 1st April following an altercation in the street in which a knife was reported to have been brandished. A search of the property by police later revealed quantities of a substance believed to be cannabis together with amounts of cash. Investigations are on-going. (Ref 35/19014/21)

And Finally – Hoax Emergency Calls:

Two Ramsey teenagers were responsible for repeated hoax 999 calls to the Force Control Room this week, initially calls consisting of laughing and swearing down the phone, but finally making a call alleging that they had been chased by two persons with knives.

Police responded but also tracked the phone used to make the call. When officers arrived at the scene, the two suspects were located, one of whom was in possession of the phone. When challenged about the hoax calls, they appeared unconcerned about their actions or the police resources that they had needlessly tied up.

Hoax calls take police time away from people who really need their help. Just one minute can make all the difference in an emergency. Misusing the 999 system and using it for non-emergency matters to report crimes or emergencies that do not exist can cost lives. If you are found to be making a hoax call, you could be fined or even sent to prison.

Vehicles will be diverted via the A1303. Non-motorway traffic will then be diverted on roads through Cambridge and motorway traffic will be diverted south on M11, east on A505 and north on the A11 to re-joint the A14 at junction 36
• A428 westbound between Girton and Madingley (including A14 westbound exit slip to M11 southbound)
Vehicles will be diverted onto A14 westbound, exit at junction 24b for the A1307, then south on the A1198 at Godmanchester to re-join the A428 at Caxton Gibbet
M11 bound traffic will be diverted to continue on A14 westbound to Bar Hill junction 25, exit and return on the A14 eastbound to access the M11

Fenstanton WI – Suspension

 

Fenstanton WI

Fenstanton WI will pass into suspension as from the end of March 2021.

This process has not been undertaken lightly and has resulted directly from the effect of the ongoing pandemic.

Reinstatement can take place within a three year period, and anyone wishing to receive further details and information, please contact the local WI advisor, Phyllis Brooks on 01480 380240 or at [email protected].

There has been a WI in Fenstanton for over 100 years, and it would continue to be a valued asset to the village if it could be revived in the not too distant future, when social restrictions have become a distant memory

Annual Report from Cambridgeshire County Councillor Ian Bates

CAMBRIDGESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2020/21

Most of you are aware that, from almost the beginning of 2020, the year has been extremely difficult for, individuals, families, and communities. During this difficult time, Cambridgeshire County Council, working alongside Huntingdonshire District Council, have continued to support vulnerable individuals, educational needs e.g. for parents working from home and having to school their child/children at home. Also, CCC Staff have been re-deployed out to assist with Covid-19 enquiries/call-centres and, in my own area, this resulted in 80 Transport Staff being re-deployed.

Over this period, all meetings for CCC Staff, along with Councillors, have been carried out virtually (Zoom etc), personally, this required a very intense learning curve for me – my longest Zoom being from 09.00 – 18.30 hrs (we did have a few mini-breaks!) I very much believe this will continue as we emerge, slowly, from lock-down, I am predicting that people will not travel regularly into work as they once did, but to (occasionally) continue to work from home – if they are able.

Regular up-dates have regularly been held via virtual meetings by the Chief Executive of the Council also, most importantly, from the Director of Public Health who provided regular up-to-date, vital information for us all. Now this information is able to carry the good news of the increasing numbers of people receiving their 1st vaccination, with many also having their 2nd – these numbers continuing to rise.

Also, there have been regular up-dates provided by General Purposes, Adult Services, Children & Young People, Commercial & Investments, Communities & Partnerships, Environment & Sustainability, Health and Highways & Transport (which I Chair).

We have continued with our Full Council Meetings in fact, 6 times over this period, with all meetings being recorded and can now be viewed on CCC website, which also provides access to ALL reports, minutes etc.

A special thanks must go to our local community neighbours who have been involved in ‘time-banks’ and ‘community hubs’, along with the many individual volunteer residents giving time to support neighbours in any way they are able.

Just a reminder: Cambridgeshire is the fastest-growing County in the country, which brings with it many challenges. To give an e.g. Alconbury Weald will have one secondary school, 3 primaries, 1 special school, along with associated other facilities. There are 2 other sites of similar size, i.e. Northstowe which you can note from any Guided Bus journey, and Waterbeach.

I am sure many of you will be aware, there was quite a bit of ‘rain falling out of the skies’ during the Christmas period! This, naturally, caused flooding in places as the water tables were already full and could take no more. There are many agencies involved in this type of issue, i.e, Environment Agency, Anglia Water, Middle Levels, Internal Drainage Boards, District Councils along with The County.

With regards to our finances: there has been much discussion over the last year regarding budgets, particularly in relation to Adult Social Care. We have received Central Government monies to support our programme. At CCC Full Council Meeting, held on 9th February, a balanced Budget was set, with the most significant increase being for Highways maintenance, this allocated an extra £20m for footpaths maintenance yes, a huge amount! This amount to be spread over the period 2021/26. Further monies were also allocated for gulley clearing and verge maintenance.

Remember: the up-coming County Council Elections in May for which I will not be seeking re-election, having decided to retire after my 20 years as your County Councillor, this followed from a 20 year involvement with HDC (the 2 Council positions overlapping). I began my long Local Government ‘career’ on Hilton Parish Council, being Chairman for many years!
