Weekly Policing Update – Fenstanton District

Good Afternoon, Fenstanton District Members –

Here is our weekly summary of offences and incidents affecting your community, reported to police during the period 28th February to 6th March:

High Street, Fenstanton – Police received a report of a person on a bicycle seen behaving in a suspicious manner on Fenstanton High Street shortly after midnight on Tuesday night, 2nd / 3rd March. The male was riding up and down the street, apparently looking through windows into parked cars. Shortly afterwards he was spotted at The Pavement in St Ives where officers stopped him and carried out a search. This revealed a small amount of a green herbal substance believed to be cannabis, together with a grinder. (Ref 35/12406/21)

And Finally – Warning of A ‘National Insurance Number’ Telephone Scam:

My thanks to an Ecops subscriber in Somersham with experience of this telephone scam, for drawing my attention to it.

Action Fraud, the UK Centre for cyber-crime and fraud reporting and investigation, issued an alert to the public after receiving over a thousand extra calls in one week about the scam.

Victims received an automated telephone call telling them that their ‘National Insurance Number had been compromised’ and in order to fix it and get a new number, they should press number 1 on their phone to be connected to a service agent.

However, the agent was in fact a criminal who pressured victims into giving their personal details, to be used in subsequent fraud.

Action Fraud advise that people remain vigilant and cautious of any calls suggesting that their National Insurance Number has been compromised. If you have any doubts, hang up the phone.
